Advisor Accounts
The CLS Program works in partnership with faculty, administrators, and staff members at colleges and universities across the United States to share information about the program and advise students interested in applying. Although applicants are not required to obtain support from their home institutions to apply for the scholarship, the CLS Program values the role that advisors play in supporting students as they prepare competitive applications for nationally-competed awards like CLS.
The Role of CLS Advisors
Advisors in our network typically support students and the CLS Program by:
- Advocating for and promoting the CLS Program on campus, both to students and to other faculty members and administrators;
- Supporting students throughout the application process;
- Staying up-to-date on application and program requirements; and
- Serving as a point of contact for staff from the CLS Program and the U.S. Department of State for outreach efforts.
Resources and Opportunities
In support of their advising efforts, the CLS Program offers advisors access to a range of resources and opportunities, including:
- Printed and electronic promotional materials;
- Periodic email updates with program information and news;
- Pre- and post-program press releases for campuses with CLS finalists and participants;
- Access to advising tools and additional resources;
- Invitations to attend regional, limited-participation advisor workshops and events; and
- Optional opportunities to participate in the CLS Program’s annual selection process.
